Fundamental to Racing
Developing the EQUIPE RS Thermo Rain Jersey.

Few things are worse than being cold and wet on a bike. Even Greg Van Avermaet is the first to admit that. And that was something we had to resolve. After almost two years officially back in the peloton on the hardworking riders of BMC Racing Team, it would be an understatement to say we have learned a lot. Lessons that go beyond results, covering continents and innumerable hours of training. As cyclists, we understand as well as them what it is like to suffer on a bike, but they have a more tangible understanding of the unavoidable suffering that comes from the fact that competitions take place at the mercy of the elements.

Strade Bianche 2018 — Under that mud there is a Liberty.

42 years after the first Lycra shorts that saturated the professional peloton, we’re introducing a new product that is created for the same purpose: to meet the needs of racing at the highest level, in the harshest conditions. That pursuit is what has pushed us to take what we do to the next level. After direct feedback from BMC Racing Team riders at 2017 Paris-Nice, they requested a more aerodynamic, more insulating racing jersey to fend off the worst racing conditions. Within a few weeks, we hand-couriered the first prototypes of the Liberty, in time for Milan–San Remo.

While that edition of the race and the subsequent weeks were dry, the inevitable deluge of bad weather arrived, and the riders soon got down to road-testing this product.

Now 16 months on, this intensively tested, race-proven rain jersey has been approved by our designers, the riders, and the director sportifs. The confidence in the power of this jersey to play a vital role in keeping you warm and dry in the saddle is sky-high, and that’s why we are so proud to make it available to you. Unlike conventional approaches to thermal rain jerseys, the Liberty relies on our own proprietary nonporous Stratagon Light, which renders it super lightweight and capable of performing even when wet.

So here’s to the Liberty, a product that makes sure you are equipped for the conditions, without bulk. A product that satisfies the highest demands of Spring Classics winners, Olympic champions, and the like. We’re particularly proud of this one because it comes directly from our work with BMC Racing Team, and it has already become a firm favorite among us at the Swiss HQ. To us, apparel serves as the equipment that protects you from the elements, making it fundamental to riding in all weather. With this one in your wardrobe, the word Liberty can get redefined. Here’s to suffering in comfort.
